So I went to New York for a lighting conference and it was an amazing time! It was my second time in NYC and this city is just so amazing. Always full of life and so many things to see. I still have yet to visit Brooklyn but hey, next time!
We stayed at the “Element New York Times” and I highly recommend it. The rooms are quite small but welcome to Manhattan! They were extremely clean and beds were comfortable. The service was great and we had an included breakfast which was delicious. There was actual hot stuff like eggs and bacon which is a plus. It’s also in a great location, so close to many things.
To get around Manhattan, the quickest and most cost efficient is taking the Subway. Plus it’s kind of cool taking it after seeing it in like every TV show or movie! It’s a little dirty but I had a great experience and it got us from Guggenheim to Wall street in less than 15 minutes. If you need to get from one place to another quickly, take an express train. We got on it accidentally and it brought us to Wall street in half the time!
Naturally, you have to visit all of the touristic places – Times Square, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Centre, Wall Street, Brooklyn bridge, Ground Zero, etc.etc. One thing I’ve done twice now and I recommend is going up the Rockefeller Centre to the “Top of the Rock”. You get incredible views of the city and great shots. I also recommend visiting Times Square during the day and at night to experience it fully.
If you love art, even if you don’t, I highly recommend visiting many museums. New York is filled with art and history. We visited the Guggenheim, the MOMA, and in the past I’ve visited the Museum of Natural History. You would be so surprised at the amount of history and huge artifacts these museums have. I was able to stand in front of Starry Night, projects by Andy Warhol, Picasso, Van Gogh, etc.
If you have time in New York, I recommend walking down the High Line. They have redone the old train tracks into a beautiful park. Worth it 🙂 OH ! And you MUST go see a broadway show! I’ve seen “Lion King” and it is absolutely incredible. The production is insane and the actors are amazing!
